Greetings from cold, snowy Copenhagen! The snow came late this year, leaving December bare, and January looking like a Winter Wonderland. I catch myself humming Christmas songs because the snowy weather reminds me of the holidays.

Though my mind is all set for spring, with spring fashion statements already hanging in my wardrobe waiting to be worn, I cannot ignore the fact that the city is covered in snow, and it is way too cold to wear spring dresses outside.

Even though the snow may look beautiful, and even magical in the sun, going through a dark and cold winter season can be tough. Minor winter depressions and SAD is a real thing, and I have experienced just on my body in a few different ways. I have experienced a decreased level of energy, ability to concentrate and the ability to eat healthily like I use to.

During these past months, I rarely had any excess energy to even think about working out, which turned into this bad routine of being lazy and get nothing done. So lately, I have experimented with different techniques to make me a more happy and healthy person during the winter.

I found that one of the best ways to feel better, and get more done, is to wake up early, to get as much sunlight into your day as possible. Sunlight stimulates happiness and it produces vitamin D, which lots of people have a deficit of during the winter, harming our bodies and well-being.

For cloudy morning where there are no signs of the sun, I use a Light Therapy lamp, that should supposedly wake you up internally and substitute the feeling of sunlight. Other important elements of staying sane during the winter, include things like exercising, meditating, and getting outside, even when it is unbearably cold.

Here is a typical winter outfit that is super comfy and warm (enjoy my goofy happy face!), and let me know if you would like me to write another post with more tips on how to stay happy and healthy during the winter.

OUTFIT:

EARRINGS: Gina Tricot, SWEATER: H&M, COAT: Zara, TROUSERS: Zara, GLOVES: H&M, BOOTS: Aldo

  • looking gorgeous

  • This jacket is absolutely darling, especially when paired with those boots. Also, I’ve been dying to try a light therapy lamp. I hear that they can do wonders during the dreary winter months.

    • I’m glad you like the outfit! Yes, it definitely makes a difference. You can even get more advanced ones, that function as an alarm + a light therapy lamp, so it wakes you up very subtly and in that way, you shouldn’t be so tired because your inner clock is registering the ‘rising sun’. It should be very useful, especially during the winter, where it’s often black dark outside in the morning!

  • Love this post! We are dying to visit Copenhagen- the snow looks so peaceful. Thanks for sharing.

    • Thanks! You should stop by sometime!

  • Camel coats are always a must for the cold weather! You are stunning!

    • Aww, you’re too sweet. I agree, a camel coat is a must! ❄️

  • I love that coat! And those smiles are brilliant!!
It’s true that winter can bring people down and make people feel more depressed. It’s called seasonal depression and it’s very common. I bet light therapy is helpful, but I don’t know much about it. I might just look into that since I have seasonal depression.

    • Haha, thank you, Emily! Yes, that’s a great idea. I honestly don’t know if I have/have had seasonal depression or not – all I know is that I have more energy during the summer and I feel happier when I see the sun shining – but when it comes down to it, I don’t think there is anything abnormal about that. Maybe it’s just because summer is my favorite season of them all, or maybe some of us are more related to animals that hibernate during the winter and we get moody without our naps, haha ☺️

  • I absolutely LOVE this outfit! There’s nothing like a good camel coat in the winter! 🙂

  • Being a person living in a desert it’s impossible for me to enjoy sunlight! But your photos make sunlight look totally irresistible! We actually do the opposite here in Dubai, to cheer up ourselves, we go out in the evening for some fresh sun-less winds haha!

    • Wow, that’s so interesting! I guess balance is the key, but right now Dubai sounds very tempting!

  • Greetings from Stockholm! I can really understand what you mean with the dark, cold and SHORT days in Scandinavia during the winter =) I live in Stockholm and this januari is just killing me! cold as hell!
P.s I like your coat! And I think it is the same as I have but in grey =)

    • Thanks! I’m glad you like the coat, and I totally feel you with the current weather situation! In Copenhagen, it gets dark around 4 PM each day, which is WAY too early ☹️ It’s probably the same for Stockholm. We just have to get through it until summer comes around!
